Here’s how it works: stop by any Chipotle on Halloween, Sunday, October 31 between 6pm and closing time dressed up as a Horrific Processed Food item and, as a thank you for a $2 donation, you will get a huge, gourmet burrito made to your specifications. Chipotle will then donate up to $1 million dollars to Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Personal Saftey Classes for Woman

The Vienna Police Department will offer another session of the women’s self-defense class, R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense), November 1, 3, 8 and 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., S.E.

The program is designed for the average woman with no previous experience or background in physical skills training. Escape and response techniques are demonstrated in practical scenarios as well as ways to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

Metro Blue and Orange Lines Cut In Two This Weekend

WASHINGTON DC (WUSA) -- It could be a stressful Columbus Day weekend for Metro riders going through downtown Washington. Metro will close three stations along the Blue and Orange Lines in order to install new track switches, track fasteners, replace old tracks, install safety lights, and repair platforms.

The closure will begin around 10:00 Friday evening. It will last all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, which is the Columbus Day federal holiday. Service will be back to normal by the time service begins Tuesday morning.

Unprecendented Need Expected for Fairfax Holiday Sponsor-a-Family Program

FAIRFAX, VA. (October 5, 2010) – Fairfax-based non-profit Our Daily Bread, Inc. (ODB) announces the launch of its 2010 Holiday Program to assist needy families in the Fairfax County area. The organization is seeking individuals, families, companies and community groups to “sponsor” eligible families by providing a Thanksgiving meal, December holiday meal and gifts for children.

ODB operates the Holiday Program through a grant from the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. Coordinating closely with social workers and community-based organizations who serve families throughout the County, ODB works to ensure that as many eligible families as possible who have been identified as having a great need are able to receive holiday assistance.

Now at Panera: Pink Ribbon Bagel to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Panera Bread's signature Pink Ribbon Bagel is back for the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Panera Bread has Northern Virginia locations in Arlington, Falls Church, Bailey's Crossroads, Alexandria, Merrifield, McLean, Virginia, West Springfield, Fairfax and Reston participating for the 10th year in a row to help support the fight against breast cancer.

The bagels will be sold throughout the month of October and the participating bakery-cafes will donate a portion of the proceeds from each Pink Ribbon Bagel to the Inova Health Systems Life with Cancer Program. Not only will the bagel support breast cancer awareness, it is also delicious! The bagel includes cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar.
