Home 4 the Holidays: Fairfax County Animal Shelter Event

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is offering free spaying and neutering for the first 100 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies adopted during the month of December. This special offer is part of the Home 4 the Holidays adoption celebration to get homeless animals into loving new homes in time for the holidays!

I went in today and spent some time looking at the available animals that are hoping to get adopted during this holiday season. Hearing them bark and cry was pretty upsetting and I wish that I could adopt them all, but I am not even allowed 1 pet in my apartment. However, you can help! You can search online for pets available for adoption. Just go to www.petharbor.com, type in the zip code 22030 or your own zip code and click on Adopt a Pet. Check the box for Fairfax County Animal Services and “Use this Shelter List” and begin your search for whatever animal you are interested in adopting!

If you want to go in and see the animals yourself, the adoption hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is located at 4500 West Ox Road in Fairfax, VA.

What do you need to adopt a pet? Here is your checklist:

1)      Proof of home ownership (mortgage statement, personal property tax bill, or lease, etc)

2)      Your current photo ID

3)      You must bring all the dog(s) you own to shelter to meet a potential new dog

4)      Current vaccinations on all pets that you own

5)      Proof that all dogs are current on County Licensing
