New Sidewalk Made Possible Through Town/County Parternship

From the Town of Vienna:

Vienna, VA- There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly completed sidewalk along Lawyers Road on Saturday, November 20, at 9 a.m. at the corner of Abbotsford Drive and Lawyers Road in Fairfax County.  The new 5’ wide sidewalk runs along Lawyers Road from Blair Court, NW in Vienna to Abbotsford Drive in Fairfax County.  The public is encouraged to attend.

This section of Lawyers Road topped the Town’s Sidewalk Task Force List, which identifies locations in Town in need of sidewalks, and is compiled based on input from residents, the Town’s Transportation Safety Commission, Town Council and the Department of Public Works.  This section of Lawyers Road was given a high priority status since it serves as a walking route to Louise Archer Elementary School, is the location for several bus stops, and is along a busy thoroughfare with high speed and heavy traffic volume.

Approximately 40% of the new sidewalk rests within Town limits and 60% in Fairfax County.  In order to fund this project, the Town partnered with Fairfax County.  With the help of Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Sharon Bulova and Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, the portion of the project outside of Town limits was paid through funds provided by Fairfax County Department of Transportation.  Town staff managed the entire project, including the landscaping that will border the entire length of the new section of sidewalk.
