Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Open House

This was sent to us by Vienna Volunteer Fire Department:

On Saturday October 9th the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (400 Center Street South, Vienna, VA) is pleased to host its annual Open House. This day is the culmination of Fire Prevention week. The 2010 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) theme is simply: “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!” The Open House will help educate the public on the importance of working smoke alarms, how to properly use and maintain smoke alarms and what to do should a home fire occur.

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department offers the following tips for making sure smoke alarms are maintained and working properly:

•Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button, and make sure everyone in your home knows their sound.

•If an alarm “chirps,” warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.

•Replace all smoke alarms, including alarms that use 10-year batteries and hard-wired alarms, when they’re 10 years old (or sooner) if they do not respond properly when tested.

•Never remove or disable a smoke alarm.

The Open House will include fire and rescue operational demonstrations as well as a chance to explore the fire station and see up close the various fire department vehicles and meet all the friendly firefighters and EMTs. There will be free food and refreshments served and of course any Open House would not be complete without the great free fire helmets and balloons that all children love so much.

Planned Activities:  Fire Rescue and EMT demonstrations, fun learning activities for kids, 911 simulators, finger printing for children, blood pressure checks, fire hoses to try out, free refreshments, and competitions and prizes for all the family

Thank you for your support.  We will see you on October 9th.
