This is an exciting opportunity for families to meet their subject expert teachers and school leadership to learn more about their acclaimed liberal arts and sciences program. This event features an information presentation, and a question and answer period.

LearningRx Of Vienna/Reston, VA. Leads  6th Annual, Award-Winning Job Shadow Program

Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Vienna, Va., and Reston, Va. is leading the sixth annual Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (TRCC) job shadow program, in partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, for almost 90 11th and 12th grade Fairfax County students, which is a 50 percent increase in student participation from last year. Students applied from James Madison High School, George C. Marshall High School, Marshall Academy, Oakton High School and Mountain View High School in Fairfax County, Va. Students can shadow professionals in more than 30 industries for one day from January through March 2018. In 2014, the TRCC job shadow program earned the Workforce Development award from Fairfax County and FCPS.  Loftus is heading up the program as she is the chair of the TRCC’s Youth and Education Committee. BASIS Independent McLean’s (BIM) Parent Community Association (PCA) hosted its 2nd Annual International Day to celebrate cultures around the world and in the school community. The PCA transformed BASIS Independent McLean’s cafeteria, the Great Hall, into five continents:  Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Carmello’s of Historic Manassas, Va. got to make special holiday memories with more than 35 BARN Community Housing residents of Bristow, Va., when they dropped off Christmas dinner for the 12 BARN families. BARN Community Housing of Bristow, Va. opened its doors to families facing homelessness in 1997. A 501(c)3 secular non-profit, BARN provides clean, safe housing for families in need of a helping hand.  Started by the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, BARN is located on the monastery grounds. BARN is about helping families overcome the obstacles – emotional and financial –empowering these individuals to trust in their own abilities and strive to be the best version of themselves.

Carmello’s and Monza of Historic Manassas, Va. are asking the public to drop off non-perishable foods at their restaurants to support SERVE of Manassas, Va., a local homeless shelter, now through Nov. 30. Each person that brings in at least five cans, will get one voucher for 10 percent off their next individual meal at Carmello’s or Monza, good through Dec. 31, 2018. Metropolitan School of the Arts to Perform Nutcracker Dec. 1, Dec. 2 in Annandale

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Va. will present their annual MSA Nutcracker on Fri., Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 2 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.at the Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center, Annandale Campus at 8333 Little River Turnpike. Nutcracker ticket prices range from $26 to $28 and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.

Audiences can join Clara and her Nutcracker in a magical journey from her Victorian home through the Land of Snow and into the Land of Sweets. The performance features a larger-than-life Christmas tree, more than 100 dancers, and Tchaikovsky’s glorious score.

Maureen Loftus, owner and executive director of LearningRx Reston and LearningRx Vienna, took home a top awards from LearningRx’s national convention held in Colorado Springs, Col: the 2017 Life Impact Award and the 2017 Community Impact Award. The Life Impact Award is given to LearningRx Reston for fulfilling the brain training needs of a client through multiple stages of life.
