The days are getting shorter and going back to school is now a reality, but the wonderful farmers markets that bring fresh produce and delicious, farm-made products to your neighborhood remain open.  In fact, fall is one of the best times to enjoy the bounty of these local markets found throughout Fairfax County.

 

The Fairfax County Park Authority works closely with farmers to ensure that markets can thrive well past Labor Day.  In fact, many markets remain open into November. The 2011 market schedule is outlined below:

 

Tuesdays

Fairfax Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through October 25

 

Wednesdays

Mount Vernon Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through November 23

Oak Marr Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through November 16

Frying Pan Farmers Market 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. through October 26

Wakefield Farmers Market 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. through October 26

 

Thursdays

Herndon Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through October 27

Annandale Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through November 3

 

Fridays

McLean Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through November 18

Kingstowne Market 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. through October 28

 

Saturdays

Burke Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through November 19

Reston Farmers Market 8 a.m. until noon through October 29

 

Sundays

Lorton Farmers Market 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through November 6

 

The markets offer a wide variety of freshly picked fruits, vegetables, and cut flowers. There are also fresh eggs, baked goods, honey and cider to purchase.
