Golf For Good: Local Tournament Raises Funds & Awareness

Golf For Good: Local Tournament Raises Funds & Awareness

According to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, every 14 minutes someone in the United States commits suicide.

Help raise awareness to this growing issue, and reach out to those affected by suicide at The AFSP National Capital Chapter 's Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament on May 23rd.

Last year, the organization was able to raise $18,000, which benefitted the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and their dedication to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy programs.

The 18-hole golf tournament is located at one of the area’s nicest courses at Andrews Airforce Base in Md., and features a fully catered barbeque lunch and refreshments.

The tournament also incorporates contests and prizes including restaurant gift certificates, and paid vacations to Chicago, Florida, and San Francisco, as well as trophies for winning foursomes.

Attn NoVA/DC/MD High School Students + Parents :: Prom Confidence Event + Giveaway on March 24th

On Saturday, March 24, local merchants and activists for young people will come together to make some prom dreams come true for teenagers in Northern Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. The group previously hosted makeovers with local teens, including the one featured in the video above of Nailah Phillips, a sophomore at Heritage HIgh School in Leesburg. Perhaps the best part about these makeovers is that the team bases its prom and homecoming events not only on making over the outside, but on reminding teens first, to see and appreciate their strengths, and second, to know that each is truly special.
