Firefighters Help Bring New Winter Coats to Kids

From Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department:

Fairfax County firefighters, in cooperation with the Coats for Kids Foundation, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will collect and distribute new winter coats for children and youths through high school age, Thursday, October 28, 2010, 11 a.m., at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia.

Through generous support and donations from organizations and businesses, it is anticipated that approximately 1,000 youths and their families will benefit. This is the fifth year firefighters and the department have sponsored this community event.

Origins of Thanksgiving Traditions Explored at Park Program

Come to the historic Hunter House on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and discover how wild turkeys and other plants and animals became part of our Thanksgiving traditions. The Gourds and Gobblers program is for children ages two to five years. The cost is $6 per child.

The Hunter House is located in Nottoway Park at 9537 Courthouse Road in Vienna, Virginia.

Free Workshop on Estate Planning

The 5-Step Estate Plan workshop will be presented on Monday, November 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE.

Attorney David Hoffman will discuss wills, trusts, taxes and probate in easy-to-understand terms.

Redskins Band to March in Halloween Parade

Hail to the Redskins!  Again this year, the Washington Redskins Marching Band is scheduled to appear in the Vienna Halloween Parade on Wednesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. along Maple Avenue.

The Redskins Band is the country’s oldest professional football marching band.  The band entertains fans with pregame and halftime shows, upbeat music during Redskins drives and, of course, their famous fight song whenever the team scores.  The band’s appearance in the parade is sponsored by Air Treatment Company.
