Northern Virginia natives Tim Ma and Joey Hernandez, who are now engaged, had the idea to bring a unique, contemporary dining experience to their roots. Ma and Hernandez opened Maple Ave Restaurant, which is located in heart of Vienna, Virginia about two-and-a-half years ago. The Soundry: Northern Virginia's 'Art Incubator'

 

The Soundry is Northern Virginia’s art incubator: it’s an automobile shop converted into a working studio, stage, classroom, gallery, boutique, and coffee shop in Vienna, VA. Some of the most popular events that take place at The Soundry are the open mic nights, which includes open comedy nights on Wednesdays and open music on Tuesdays. 

Jennifer Crawford is this week’s Super NoVA for her efforts to create a place for local artists. She and her husband opened The Soundry in December 2008, and it has since grown to include about 60 members. The Crawford's plan to open a second location in the future.

“I felt like this area has a lot of prosperity, but not a lot of personality,” said Crawford.

This Week's Super NOVA is an Executive Chef with an On-Site Organic Garden

A Super NOVA is a person with a unique talent or business that makes them stand out in the crowd of Northern Virginia. Executive Chef Thomas Elder is this week's Super NOVA for having an on-site sustainable garden right outside the door of his new restaurant. Do you know any restaurants that have a garden a few footsteps away from the kitchen? restaurant härth is now open and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Hilton McLean Tyson's Corner. The restaurant got it's name from the wood-burning oven that is at the center of the kitchen. härth's menu includes American comfort food with a modern twist. 

Executive Chef Tom Elder is excited about his on-site garden that will grow mint in the mint patch to make his signature mojitos, 2 beehives, and an area for hot peppers to name a few crops. Check out the video to see Chef Elder show us around his on-site garden.
