Redskins baby Zoie's first trip to the dentist

A dental visit at an early age is a “well baby checkup” for the teeth. 

Redskins linebacker, Lorenzo Alexander, brought in his daughter Zoie to show parents how to care for their children’s teeth.  Teaching children good dental habits at a young age reduces the fear of going to the dentist and creates a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Redskins Band to March in Halloween Parade

Hail to the Redskins!  Again this year, the Washington Redskins Marching Band is scheduled to appear in the Vienna Halloween Parade on Wednesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. along Maple Avenue.

The Redskins Band is the country’s oldest professional football marching band.  The band entertains fans with pregame and halftime shows, upbeat music during Redskins drives and, of course, their famous fight song whenever the team scores.  The band’s appearance in the parade is sponsored by Air Treatment Company.

Public Meeting Scheduled for Bicycle Master Plan

From Fairfax County Department of Transportation:

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, September 30, to discuss recommendations on how bicycle-friendly design should be incorporated into future roadway and transit projects and private developments. The plan creation will be divided into two phases with Phase I focusing on the Tysons Corner area. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Phase I meeting tomorrow from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Joyce Kilmer Middle School located at 8100 Wolftrap Road in Vienna, VA.

Louise Archer Elementary School Sunshine 5K and Fun Run

The Louise Archer Elementary School PTA will host a 5K/1K to promote healthy behaviors and raise much-needed funds for our school. The race is on Sunday, October 17 in Central Vienna, VA, on the W&OD Trail, beginning at the intersection of Dominion Rd. and Ayr Hill Rd. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Acumen Solutions, an international leader in business and technology consulting, announced today that two-thousand dollars in combined prizes will be awarded to race winners across different categories for its second annual Acumen Solutions Race for a Cause™ 8K and 1-Mile Fun Run on Sunday, October 17, 2010 in Arlington, VA.  

The 1 mile format has been added this year to give families and young runners a chance to participate. The race gives all registrants the unique opportunity to choose their charitable preference by picking from the following organizations listed below.

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball
