Metrorail to Resume Normal Operations

As of 5:00 a.m. this morning, metrorail has resumed normal operations. Extensive testing was done overnight last night after the 5.8 quake that shook the Washington D.C. area. WMATA's full release is available here.

According to VDOT, the HOV restrictions have been lifted (this afternoon only) for 66, 395, and 95.

Aug. 19 Highway Closure to Impact Fairfax Connector Service

Major traffic gridlock is expected from Leesburg to Arlington on Friday afternoon, Aug. 19 for this year’s America’s 9/11 Foundation motorcycle event. Fairfax Connector service will be significantly impacted.


Final 9/11 Anniversary Ride to Impact Friday Commute

FAIRFAX, Va. – Those living, working and traveling through the Northern Virginia region on the afternoon and evening of Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, are advised to begin preparing now for major road closures associated with a  Sept. 11, 2001, motorcycle tribute procession.

This year’s America’s 9/11 Foundation, Inc., event is anticipated to have its largest turnout ever with over 1,800 motorcyclists expected to participate. The annual remembrance ride honors all who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks, aftermath and recovery. The ride travels from Somerset, Pennsylvania to the Pentagon, then to the site of the World Trade Center over a four-day period of time.

Metro's rebuilding efforts will continue this weekend on the Red, Orange, Blue and Yellow lines. The work will begin around 10 p.m. tonight and continue through closing on Sunday, August 14.

Expect Maple Avenue Road Work Wednesday

From the Town of Vienna:

On Wednesday, July 27, installation of a wet-tap into the water main will begin within the eastbound lanes of Maple Avenue in front of 540 Maple Avenue.  In an effort to minimize impact on traffic, a majority of the work will be performed in the afternoon and overnight hours. Traffic will be diverted around the work area from the main eastbound lanes onto the service drive during road work. Maple Avenue will be fully opened prior to 6 a.m. each morning and steel plates will be used to temporarily cover the work area.  Work is expected to last a few days.
